A tribal art form from the heart of Madhya Pradesh, Gond art is rooted in the spiritual world of the Gond tribe. The word 'Gond' comes from ‘Kond’, meaning green hill. Traditionally painted on mud walls using natural dyes, the art reflects a deep reverence for nature, mythology, and everyday life. Its distinctive style features intricate lines, dots, and dashes that animate flora, fauna, and folklore. Today, this centuries-old tradition thrives on paper and canvas, blending indigenous storytelling with contemporary expression.

Ramesh Tekam, hailing from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, is a distinguished artist from the Gond tribe with over 35 years of experience in the traditional art form. Introduced to Gond painting by his parents, he grew up immersed in their visual storytelling, which ignited his fascination with the craft. Further honing his skills under the guidance of J. Swaminathan ji, Ramesh has developed a distinctive contemporary style that blends tribal motifs with modern storytelling and animation influences. His artworks are celebrated for their vibrant colors and narrative depth, often portraying forest life, animals, and nature-inspired tales.

Over the years, Ramesh has participated in more than 40 exhibitions and earned accolades including the Bharat Bhawan Award, recognition at the Vanya Prakashan Shivir Camp, and a Story-Based Painting Award. Beyond his achievements, he sees Gond art as a living tradition—a medium to preserve tribal identity and stories, while engaging younger generations through visual narratives. For him, every painting is more than an artwork; it is nature speaking through lines and colors, a bridge between heritage and contemporary expression.
