A tribal art form from the heart of Madhya Pradesh, Gond art is rooted in the spiritual world of the Gond tribe. The word 'Gond' comes from ‘Kond’, meaning green hill. Traditionally painted on mud walls using natural dyes, the art reflects a deep reverence for nature, mythology, and everyday life. Its distinctive style features intricate lines, dots, and dashes that animate flora, fauna, and folklore. Today, this centuries-old tradition thrives on paper and canvas, blending indigenous storytelling with contemporary expression.

Jayprakash Dhurway, based in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, is an accomplished artist deeply rooted in the tribal art tradition. Introduced to the craft by his uncle, he learned the techniques, motifs, and storytelling methods that define this cultural heritage. Over more than a decade of dedicated practice, he has refined his skills through personal exploration and active participation in community events. Jayprakash’s artworks are celebrated for their intricate patterns, vibrant compositions, and the use of symbolic motifs that narrate stories from folklore and community life. His commitment to the art form has earned him 20–25 awards, with notable recognition at events such as Udaipur, Atmahosav, and Mahautsav.

For him, tribal art is more than decoration—it is a living expression of cultural identity and collective memory. While preserving the authenticity of traditional styles, he thoughtfully incorporates subtle contemporary elements to engage younger audiences, ensuring that the visual language of his heritage continues to thrive in the modern world.
