Tholubommalata: The art of light & shadows
This ancient artform from Andhra Pradesh was once an imperative storytelling instrument for the country.
Centuries before radio, TV or newspapers made their way, wandering entertainers and peddlers would sing ballads and narrate mythological stories using handcrafted leather puppets.
The puppets had tiny holes that allowed light to shimmer through them like jewels.
